My painting is a close op of a praying Mantis, inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe. Some techniques that were effective was using more water for the lighter parts of the painting. Using this, I could create more highlighted places, as well as different shades of the paint. I would say my composition was a success because you can tell what the painting is. Color choice was very important because it shows the different parts and creates depth of the praying mantis. I used my knowledge of Georgia O'Keeffe in this drawing by being inspired of how welly she captures nature so close up in her paintings. I would say my craftsmanship was okay, I say this because the attempt of making it realistic did not work out as I planned. If I was an art critic I would give this a 6/10. If I were to redo this assignment I would blend my colors together more and picked a better angle. I learned that working with watercolor you have to be more careful with distributing the water, as well as blending the colors more.
In this portrait, I drew my interpretation of a scene from "Alice in Wonderland". I used multiple different pen techniques such as stippling, hatching, and contour. I used these to add depth and texture in my piece to make it seem more realistic. In the portrait perspective is used by the caterpillar being the closest and the center of attention, while the other nature and scenery are in the back. Perspective is important so you can have a main focal point, as well as depth in the picture. Texture is important in this piece to show the difference in all the greenery and plants. This shows how the plants stand out instead of all blend together. Value is also very important to create a sense of light and dark, or shadows and highlights, to bring attention to the main picture. I think the craftsmanship of the drawing really brings out my view of the scene and describes it well. If I could go back to the piece I would change the background to something different, as well as fill in the blank spaces. In my drawing of this scene I represented the story in more of a realistic way, rather than cartoon. I did this by added more nature and lifelike features to the scene. While applying these techniques I found it very important to understand how to show different textures, lighting, and depth to bring it to life. This project showed me how many different ways to draw realistic and how different techniques can influence the overall drawing.
Both of these drawings are drawn at an one point perspective. The first is a bedroom, and the next is a road with buildings.
This is my final drawing for the “Unseen Things” assignment. I drew two potted succulents in a box from a birds eye view. Doing this project I used graphite pencils, and used different shading techniques. Composition is important to success because it helps capture all the main details to focus on. I found the different values by using shading and highlights to capture the lighting. I captured all the values by making certain places darker than others to show depth. My craftsmanship was pretty good because I got the drawing very close to the original object. It’s very important having the skills and techniques so I could use them to capture the object, and make it look as realistic as possible. I grew as an artist by how my final product compares to my progress photo. I added more details and values to make it look better. My obstacles was matching the lighting up with the object to the portrait, so you could tell what I was drawing. Progress photo |
