I enjoyed the oil painting process, as it was much easier to create a texture. I enjoyed using a thicker medium in nature portraits. Oil paint takes longer to dry, making it easier to mix, and spread paint. I recently visited Asheville and stayed in a cabin on a mountain. This experience inspired me to find something that reminded me of this vacation. This is depicting one of my favorite memories of the North Carolina mountains and nature atmosphere.

My painting is inspired by, "A Gulf Stream (After Winslow Homer)" by Stacy Lynn Waddell. Throughout my art process I used the medium of acrylic paint. I chose to stick with a minimalistic art style to capture the major points of Waddell's painting. I was also inspired by the "Studio Ghibli" art style because Waddell's orginal painting. Throughout I used different shades of blue to show depth and highlights. To accentuate the water, I chose to use acrylic markers to add white curvy lines to show waves. The mood I was trying to show is a dangerous situation, yet calm atmosphere. Although I enjoy my idea of the minimalistic style, I wish I used a different medium such as water paint.
